WHAT IS SPORTS- COUTURE
SPORTS- COUTURE is our experimental design studio, creating a radical mixture of all ways of working through garments, costumes, tailoring and expression.
I want the sportswear to meet couture-ish dresses with inner hidden layers, decorated with some luxury- sport details. And in the process, these interesting in-betweens will take shape. The sports- couture- dresses and the couture- puffer- accessory garments, that will feed the minimalistic side of the collection back again.
With my background in traditional tailoring and pattern making, humbled through training in my first years, learning the difference between handstitched silk chiffon, crafting Chanel jackets from scratch and taming heavy wool coats, simultaneously spending many years sewing competitive dancewear as a side hustle. Add on ten years creating for the avant-garde brand Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair with its crazy sculpture-like garments that put Fifth on the map.
With all this knowledge ANA SPORTS -COUTURE becomes a crazy mix of handmade extravagant sportswear, made to measure, stage wear and wearable sculptures. All made to inspire, experiment and find new shapes and techniques along the way.
TRADITION MEETS CRAZY
My background is tailoring and pattern making in the classical sense. I have built and designed almost all different kind of clothes and accessories you can imagine. I have also made competitive dance wear, costumes for the opera house and grand theaters of Sweden, as well as stage wear for several celebrated pop - artists.
There is something magical about performance and how the outfit must look great in big movements. Movement is where I get inspired. I have always seen new shapes in the movements when the outfit is tried on. To me, movement is possibility. Movement is also the energy that represents life and energy.
The shape of the body and how it moves is my source of inspiration. This is why the back of a dress along the spine could be more interesting than the front. I give a lot of attention to the lines that connects the back with the front diagonally. The connection between back and front is how the dress moves around the body in a spiraling motion. As in all artforms the in-betweens are as important as the actual shape.
THE MUSE FREDRIK ROBERTSSON
I am inspired by high energy bold, brave and unique beings that express themselves to inspire others. No one does this better than Muse Fredrik Robertsson, an amazingly inspiring couture wearer recently acknowledged with a beautiful fashion exhibition of his vast collection of personal couture pieces, as well as through numerous interviews.
This project was to find the extreme version of ANA, allowing all creativity to flow. Drawing inspiration from the technical fabrics of the bomber jacket turning it into a monster if you will. Fredriks unique energy is a delight to borrow and work with as he hold both intimate presence and grandeur at the same time
All of this gently and boldly captured by Anders Grahn & Fia Tegner at NIMT studios.
COUTURE- SPORTS- DRESSES
These dresses are made to inspire, and they work as experiments to find new shapes, cuts and ideas. I want to merge my tailoring and couture-ish way of working by blending the sportswear high energy soul of ANA, with the slowness of sculpting a dress on a body.
Rare garments does not have to be made in silk. One of my favorite parts in all this is to make these special dresses using left over luxury jersey fabric all made in Porto.
MINI-ATELIER
Our sports-couture pieces are only made in mini-series. Most of the time we only make one sculptured piece. But through our close work with some mini-ateliers in Porto we can make some of these projects in mini-series allowing 2- 5 pieces for a few more to enjoy.
